DESTRUCTION OF MIXED ASBESTOS MATRIXES: RADIONUCLIDES HEAVY METALS ORGANICS OTHER SECONDARY HAZARDOUS WASTES
The ABCOV® Method is the only existing non-thermal technology that adequately addresses the need of DoE for processing radioactively and heavy metal contaminated ACM resulting from decommissioning activities across the complex. This patented process destroys asbestos, while addressing radioactive metals and other hazardous wastes (lead, chromium, cadmium, polychlorinated biphenyls [PCBs], and volatiles) from the process liquids and converted non-asbestos material, reducing them to a fraction of their original volume:
Converting ACM to a non-toxic end product, integrated with radioactive metal treatment from the residue, provides a large reduction in volume that complies with the Department of Energy (DoE) Order 5820.2A (9/6/88) “Radioactive Waste Management”, as well as all other regulatory requirements (i.e. NESHAP, TSCA, OSHA and RCRA).
